I want to work for the HR team at Netflix... shoot, I would sweep floors just to work in that culture!

I am reading Patty McCord's book, Powerful and I am so happy I am. She is a rockstar, my HR idol, my hero! If I could meet her, I would bow down and kiss her feet.

Here's why-

She did everything at Netflix I always wanted to do in HR at previous companies I worked for but was not allowed to do! She did things I got in trouble for suggesting...

I am only on chapter 1 and I won't review every chapter like I did with some other books but here is my Chapter 1 highlights. Patty does such a great job summarizing in her "in brief" section so she saves you time... plus I want anyone who owns a business or runs a department to pick up copies for yourself and your teams and hire me to facilitate good discussion to jump start yoir organization culture change so you can make more money! Trust me... they got it right at Netflix!

Being in HR/Talent Management for over 10 years,  I know what she's doing is right and refreshing!

I love you Patty!

Here are some chapter 1 main points and pictures...

  1. Liberate your teams
  2. Methodologically analyze
  3. Free people to be creative,  productive and HAPPY!!
  4. Build great teams
  5. Keep you limber
  6. Fast
  7. Speed
  8. Flat
  9. Freedom
  10. Results
  11. Responsible adults
  12. Trust your people
  13. COO of culture and the chief product manager of people (sure as heck beats Chief Human Resources Officer... the most hated title in business sometimes)
  14. Throw away convention
  15. No vacation policy policy - take time you need
  16. Fast change
  17. Innovative
  18. Do things their way
  19. "If you hire talented people you need, and you provide them with the tools and information they need to get you where you need to go, they will want nothing more than to do stellar work for you and keep you limber."
  20. They are drivers of high-performance innovation

Thank you Patty!
