1 month check-in on weight loss!

Image
So today marks exactly one month since I started to really watch my diet. Two weeks into the diet, right before Thanksgiving, I dropped down 9 lbs! But then Thanksgiving happened and one cheat day turned into 3 cheat days because of all the good leftovers. Then, I had a couple more cheat days and my weight went up by 2lbs. As of today, my total weight loss for the month is 10lbs. This is good because it averages 2.5 lbs per week. I am a little mad at myself because I allowed too many cheat days. I definitely went to the gym 4-5 days per week and been trying to stay strict with the food. I only had fast food once. So, going into the next month, my goal is to not have any cheat days. I know I can lose at least 12 lbs by January 11th as long as I eliminate cheat days. My cheat days are not even that bad but definitely filled with carbs. The carbs is what makes me gain weight. So, it's up to me and I am determined to do better next month. Even with Christmas and New Years I plan to b

It's time to really lose this weight!! Here is the start of my journey!

Image
Here are some before pictures I just took tonight and pictures of my goals, meal plan and motivational letter to myself! I will be back in a month to post a weight loss update and pictures!! Bottom line, my diet will need to be restricted and I must avoid carbs, alcohol,  processed food, and fast food!! No sweets!! Only cheat days are holidays! Workout 5x per week!! Drink lots of water! I am so tired of being overweight, tired of quitting on myself.  I been exercising since August 1st and only lost 8lbs ... its 3 months and I should have lost more. I think the diet thing is obviously huge for me. I dont want to knock myself though because I did quit smoking in July which is huge and I been running 3 miles at least 3 times per week. I do need to step it up though because 2020 will be my summer!! Let's do this baby!

I failed at Optavia diet... sent it back already!!

So, I failed at the Optavia diet! The food tasted like cardboard and by 6pm on the first day,  I gave in and stuffed my face with Chinese leftovers! Lol... I could not deal with the fact that I was only "allowed" 1 lean and green meal per day and I needed to eat every 2.5 hours. The food I was allowed to eat from Optavia had no taste...I wanted to vomit. Diets that have strict restrictions are not for me. I need flexibility and freedom to eat what I want. So, I sent back the food and decided to just watch my daily calories and exercise. I hope I can stick to the calorie counting. I am using my fitness pal to keep track. It is what it is...I like my body no matter the weight so if I lose, I lose...if I don't oh well. I just want to work out at the gym because I like how it makes me feel and if I want to eat bread, I eat bread! Life is too short to be so restricted.

Started Optavia diet today!!

I had a chocolate shake and pancakes so far. The shake was awesome but the pancake was very disappointing. I hope I can make it through day 1!! It's gonna be hard for sure! Wish me luck and I will post later about the day.

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0- Attitude

Image
Having a positive, whatever it takes, take the bull by the horns attitude is what every leader needs! "A leader's attitude must exemplify resolve, tenacity,  focus, determination,  and commitment. It must demonstrate consistency, see possibilities, and fight for victories during tough times." John C. Maxwell We know good and bad attitudes when we see one. Who do you want to be around? Definitely someone with a good attitude and we want to follow leaders who see failure as learning opportunities and are positive, grateful, and can get you through tough times with encouragement. So, how do we develop a good leadership attitude? Here are some pictures of key points. My favorite part of this chapter is the section on "disown your helplessness." This discusses people who have a victim mindset. They never think they can do anything about anything. That attitude stinks! Enjoy the main points and I hope this helps you develop a leader's attitide:

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 - Problem Solving

Image
"The quickest way to gain leadership is through problem-solving... Most leaders are either entering a crisis, in the middle of a crisis, or just resolving one." John C. Maxwell How many of you go on a job interview and when asked for your strength say, "Problem-solving."? I know I do not only because it sounds good but because I am a good problem solver. What does this mean? Are you sitting around figuring out jigsaw puzzles and putting the pieces together when someone can't figure out where they all go? Well, yes! Sort of... I see problem-solving as someone who can analyze a situation, anticipate problems, and then think through solutions and then apply the solutions to the situation. Not only are you doing this by yourself, but you are also strategic enough to get buy-in for your ideas and get people to participate in the solutions so that these problems you foresee do not become a major disaster. In Maxwell's book chapter, he challenges us to look a

Your actions. I expect nothing and accept everything. "Stay out of the swamp of mediocrity and drama, reach for your greatest self, your greatest potential, and challenge yourself to live that life every single day of it." - Gary John Bishop "You are what you do, not what you say you'll do." Carl Jung "Get out of your head- this isn't just about seizing the day; this is about seizing the moment, the hour, the week, the month." Gary John Bishop Shift your mindset from soloist to

What Life is Like with 4 small children...

Life is beautiful with 4 small children. I feel so blessed and honored to be their mother and I am so grateful we had our 4th baby, Hailey Paige. Hailey truly has completed our family and is an easy baby- thank God she is because we had some colicky babies before and ish can get real hard and real overwhelming, real fast. Now that she is 3 months, sleeping the night and showing her little personality, things have gotten more normal around the house. Sleep is so important and we are lucky we get to sleep. I do need lots of coffee though and I should really work at Starbucks to support my addiction because something in their coffee just gets me going! Some other words to describe life with 4 small kids- juggling, crazy, fun, wild, rollercoaster, lots of love, sweet, beautiful, amazing, incredible, mind-blowing (Like, we sometimes ask ourselves, did we really have another one? Wow!), tough, exhausting, tiring, long days, …. yet through it all, we persevere as parents and I am lucky to h

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0: Character

Image
The words that come to mind when I think of character are kindness, honesty, authenticity, courageous, and a general sense of someone who does the right thing, even when nobody is looking. How do you define Character? In John's book, he states that there are 4 dimensions to character including: Authenticity Self-management Humility Courage He defines these 4 areas pretty well and then offers ways you can develop a good character that all good leaders should emulate (see pictures). I think this blog post will focus on what I see as practical ways to develop character and how I can relate to these areas. Embrace Good Values - What are your personal values? Write them down and go through the process of thinking through what you will stand for as a person.  Here are a few of my own personal values: Family- I will always love and protect my family and be there for them no matter what Friends - I will love my friends, boost them up, never judge them, provide honest

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0- Priorities

Image
Time is precious and in order to accomplish all you need to do, you need to prioritize. Chapter 2 is all about priorities! Think about this, "When you say everything is a high priority, then nothing is a high priority." So what is a Priority? Become proactive by recognizing these Priorities Principles: Working smarter has a higher return than working harder: Find better ways to work ad make the most of moments you have.  Dan Kennedy says, "Disciplined use of time everybody else wastes can give you the edge." You can't have it all If you want to be successful as a person and s a leader, you must make choices! You must prioritize! You cannot have it all. No one can. The good is always the enemy of the best When faced with two good choices, what should you choose? Remember that the good must sometimes be sacrificed for the best. Proactive beats Reactive Every person is either an initiator or a reactor when it comes to planning You can cho

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0- Influence

Image
How do you define leadership? Who is a leader to you? What makes that person a leader? The first part of John C. Maxwell's Leadership Model is Influence. What is Influence? Here are some insights: Sociologists estimate that even the most introverted individual will influence ten thousand other people during his or her lifetime Everyone influences someone  We don't always know who or how much we influence- think about the people who influenced you in a powerful way, or the little things that meant a lot to you The best investment in tomorrow is to develop your influence today- if you have the desire to accomplish something, you will be in a better place to do it if others are willing to help In the book Power and Influence,  the three components of the "power triangle" are communication, recognition,  and influence Influence can be developed into five stages called the 5 Levels of Leadership: Position- rights, follow because they have to Permission -
