Uphill Journey Leadership Development of New York Sunday Challenge

So, my new consulting/coaching company is called the Uphill Journey Leadership Development of New York. I posted this challenge to Facebook and hope to do a new challenge every Sunday for my audience. Here it is so my blog audience can participate too! I know what it's like to go through struggles. My life is never easy...and yet I am happy because I found how to climb and rise above. You can too because if you are not happy, you deserve to be. Life is too short friends. Today I challenge you to write out 10 things you are grateful for, 10 things you love about yourself and 10 fun or growth things you want to do in 2019. I also challenge you to write down 3 fears, 3 things holding you back, and 3 regrets....then, take those things and compare it to your "positive" list of 30 and what did you realize? How does this make you feel?  Now, get rid of your 9 things you feel are holding you back. Just shred or rip up that paper! Or press delete! How do you feel

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 - creating positive change

Image
Change is tough. People get used to doing things one way and any change can make us uncomfortable. The way to develop the change agent within you according to John Maxwell is to PLAN AHEAD... See the picture that describes every step in detail. This chapter is good for any leader of a team, department,  or organization that is looking to make some changes for improvement. If you are that leader, start to plan ahead today and use the book chapter as a planning guide. John Kotter also writes a great book called Leading Change. You should check it out if you are in a position to make changes. John Kotter on change-

What Life is Like with 4 small children...

Life is beautiful with 4 small children. I feel so blessed and honored to be their mother and I am so grateful we had our 4th baby, Hailey Paige. Hailey truly has completed our family and is an easy baby- thank God she is because we had some colicky babies before and ish can get real hard and real overwhelming, real fast. Now that she is 3 months, sleeping the night and showing her little personality, things have gotten more normal around the house. Sleep is so important and we are lucky we get to sleep. I do need lots of coffee though and I should really work at Starbucks to support my addiction because something in their coffee just gets me going! Some other words to describe life with 4 small kids- juggling, crazy, fun, wild, rollercoaster, lots of love, sweet, beautiful, amazing, incredible, mind-blowing (Like, we sometimes ask ourselves, did we really have another one? Wow!), tough, exhausting, tiring, long days, …. yet through it all, we persevere as parents and I am lucky to h

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0: Character

Image
The words that come to mind when I think of character are kindness, honesty, authenticity, courageous, and a general sense of someone who does the right thing, even when nobody is looking. How do you define Character? In John's book, he states that there are 4 dimensions to character including: Authenticity Self-management Humility Courage He defines these 4 areas pretty well and then offers ways you can develop a good character that all good leaders should emulate (see pictures). I think this blog post will focus on what I see as practical ways to develop character and how I can relate to these areas. Embrace Good Values - What are your personal values? Write them down and go through the process of thinking through what you will stand for as a person.  Here are a few of my own personal values: Family- I will always love and protect my family and be there for them no matter what Friends - I will love my friends, boost them up, never judge them, provide honest

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0- Priorities

Image
Time is precious and in order to accomplish all you need to do, you need to prioritize. Chapter 2 is all about priorities! Think about this, "When you say everything is a high priority, then nothing is a high priority." So what is a Priority? Become proactive by recognizing these Priorities Principles: Working smarter has a higher return than working harder: Find better ways to work ad make the most of moments you have.  Dan Kennedy says, "Disciplined use of time everybody else wastes can give you the edge." You can't have it all If you want to be successful as a person and s a leader, you must make choices! You must prioritize! You cannot have it all. No one can. The good is always the enemy of the best When faced with two good choices, what should you choose? Remember that the good must sometimes be sacrificed for the best. Proactive beats Reactive Every person is either an initiator or a reactor when it comes to planning You can cho

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0- Influence

Image
How do you define leadership? Who is a leader to you? What makes that person a leader? The first part of John C. Maxwell's Leadership Model is Influence. What is Influence? Here are some insights: Sociologists estimate that even the most introverted individual will influence ten thousand other people during his or her lifetime Everyone influences someone  We don't always know who or how much we influence- think about the people who influenced you in a powerful way, or the little things that meant a lot to you The best investment in tomorrow is to develop your influence today- if you have the desire to accomplish something, you will be in a better place to do it if others are willing to help In the book Power and Influence,  the three components of the "power triangle" are communication, recognition,  and influence Influence can be developed into five stages called the 5 Levels of Leadership: Position- rights, follow because they have to Permission -

Reflecting...

Image
I am on a flight to Orlando right now to meet my John C. Maxwell family and friends since joining with a lifetime membership. The 3 day live event will certify me in coaching, speaking, and training. I am happy to refresh my skills. I hope I get to meet John himself during the VIP event and have him sign a copy of my Leadershift book. I been thinking and reflecting a lot lately about my dreams, where I've come since 2016, and about how my 2 main dreams will become reality soon. My first dream is to be a NY Times Bestselling author and my 2nd is to run my own Leadership academy. I believe in me and know I will accomplish these dreams. Only a matter of time. On my flight, I picked up Rachel Hollis' new book, Girl, Stop Apologizing, and it is fire!! I wanted to share a few pics of the words that resonated the most with me.  Cheers! Peace and love, Coach Kerry
